Step 1
Learn to dance. To teach a child to dance you have to know how to dance yourself. Learning the waltz may take only a few lessons. Learning ballet may take years of lessons.
-
Step 2
Get the child's interest. Children will participate enthusiastically in something that has caught their attention and interest.
-
Step 3
Plan the lesson. Informal lessons benefit from planning as well as formal lessons. Structure in your lessons gives you a goal.
-
Step 4
Make it fun. Children learn while they are having fun. They also retain the information better. Making dance lessons fun will benefit everyone as it will encourage the child to want to learn more.
-
Step 5
Encourage the child. Learning some dance steps can be challenging for some children. Encourage them will help them stay motivated and focused on learning.
-
Step 6
Reward the child. Praise is the best reward for a child. You may also want to consider the tangible rewards. Certificates, cards and small toys will work nicely as rewards.
-
Step 7
Know when the child has moved past your ability to teach them. There may come a point when the child will surpass the teacher. Recognize these signs and be able to recommend a new teacher that will help the child become better.
