How to Make a Miniature Quilt
Miniature quilts have a couple of advantages over regular-sized ones; namely, they take less time to sew and they can be displayed as wall hangings. Any quilt pattern can be modified to make a miniature quilt--the ratio is generally 12 to 1, but miniature quilts do come in varying sizes. Follow these steps to make your own miniature quilt.

Instructions
-
-
1
Buy a miniature quilt pattern or download a free one online. Or, take a full-size pattern that you have and scale it down.
-
2
Purchase your fabric, or use scraps that you already have from other projects.
-
-
3
Wash and dry your fabric. Iron it with a dry (no steam) iron. You can use spray starch.
-
4
Cut out your templates. Most miniature quilts feature appliqué, so you will want to have templates for tracing these on fabric, and you will probably want them for your other pieces. Remember to allow for 1/4-inch seam allowances.
-
5
Stitch your pieces together based on your pattern instructions.
-
6
Sew appliqués on the blocks as directed if your miniature quilt has them. Hide your stitches or use brightly colored thread on the edges.
-
7
Sandwich a piece of batting between the quilt top and the backing, making sure that both pieces of fabric are facing right side out. Baste or pin the three layers together.
-
8
Quilt your creation by stitching along the edges of the appliqué and along the seams of the blocks, or use another quilting design.
-
9
Make sure that your quilt looks straight and that the corners form 90-degree angles.
-
10
Bind your quilt and enjoy.
