The Uniform Code of Military Justice are the rules that control military personnel. The code contains all of the rules and provides a rough guideline for the handling of rule violations. In the military, personnel may be fined, may lose rank and pay grade. Read on to learn how to comply with the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Understand that the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) was created so that low-level leaders would have a way to correct and develop service members without having to resort to drastic measures such as court-martial.
Step2
Listen to what you are told. If you do as you are told you will usually be alright. Nearly every rule in the UCMJ is basically about following orders.
Step3
Be polite and respectful to your leadership. This is the other broad topic hit on repeatedly in military articles. It also relates to the first step; it is respectful to listen and do as you are told.
Step4
Remove all negative notes about a particular incident after the punishment has been served. It is inherent in the UCMJ that service members not be dogged by mistakes they have made and learned from.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leadership must be calm, even-handed and practical about its punishments for violations. Punishments to be dealt out by a commander are limited to things that will not degrade or cause undue hardship for the service member.
  • A service member may not be subject to double jeopardy. They may not be punished by their unit for something that they are or have been prosecuted for in a civilian court.
