Things You'll Need:
- M240B cleaning kit
- Lubricant
-
Step 1
Ensure the weapon is clear and the bolt is forward.
-
Step 2
Remove the barrel assembly by pressing in on the barrel lock latch and pushing forward on the barrel. Run a clean barrel swab on a barrel rod from back to front in the direction a bullet would travel until the swabs come out clean.
-
Step 3
Grab the butt stock where it meets the receiver and press the release latch on the bottom of the butt stock. Pull up to remove the butt stock. Press and lift the end of the spring drive assembly to remove it. Depress the trigger and yank back on the charging handle to remove the bolt assembly.
-
Step 4
Use a clean rag to clean the inside of the receiver. Cotton swabs and a toothbrush can get the feeder mechanisms very clean. Be sure to run a barrel swab on a barrel rod through the barrel from back to front in the direction a bullet travels. Otherwise, most of the bolt and piston assemblies can be cleaned with a rag.
-
Step 5
Put a thin coat of Cleaner Lubricant Proctectant (CLP) or Lubricant Arctic Weather (LAW) onto all medal parts of the weapon while inspecting them for rust, cracks, bends or burrs.
-
Step 6
Reassemble the weapon in the reverse order you took it apart. After locking the barrel in place insert the cleaned bolt and piston assembly into the lower receiver.
-
Step 7
Insert the spring drive assembly the side with the divot goes up. Slide the butt stock back into place until it locks.
