Chances are that you won't be the only person in the forum who is over 50. Depending on how well you express your views, you can come across other people with the same interests and positions.

3. Find Internet groups for people over 50. Many of these people are looking for friends and look to find friends with other people their age. Join these groups and become a contributing member. After you have made enough posts, get an idea of how many of those people are in your area. Depending on how the online friendship goes, arrange to meet at a coffee shop.

4. Sit in a coffee shop and read a book, or surf the Internet. Do this everyday. After several of your visits, other regular visitors get familiar with you. Impress them with what you know and contribute things they didn't know. This is a good way to gain new friends, even after you turn 50.

5. Walk around and find bars frequented by people over 50. Have a few drinks and apply the same principle as the coffee shop. After you become a regular, people at the bar start talking about a topic you are interested in. Contribute to this, offer something real insightful.
