1. Discuss dental care with your parent. Do not pressure them into doing something that they do not want to do. But at the same time if a problem arises with their teeth do not hesitate to persuade them into seeing a dentist.

2. Find a dentist. Call several dentists to find the right one to suit you and your elderly parent. Visit the dentist and interview them before you make an appointment. You want to make sure that your parent feels comfortable with the person that is going to be working on them.

3. Make an appointment. Set an appointment for a general visit. Be aware that during the visit X-rays will be taken and a general check will be done on your parents' teeth.

4. Clear your schedule. You are going to have to prepare your parent and you will want them to be as comfortable as possible. Try to keep your distractions and itinerary down to a minimum.

5. Arrange transportation in advance. Prior to the scheduled appointment arrange the transportation that your elderly parent will need. This should address any special equipment, such as a wheel chair, cane or walker that your parent may need. You want to be as prepared as possible on the day of the dentist appointment.
