Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Learn the basics of the Spanish language. Most people don't want to begin immersion if you know absolutely no Spanish. You want to at least have some level of understanding, or else the immersion is going to take a lot longer to become effective. A good way to learn the basics of Spanish is to order the program that can be found on the Rosetta Stone website. Order a CD-ROM that will guide you through learning the basics of Spanish. Order online or by calling (888) 232-4033.
Step2
Select an immersion program. Unless you have connections in a Spanish speaking country, you will need help to find a setting that will provide full immersion. A good website to find more information on available immersion courses is the Bridge Abroad website. On this site, you can register for a language program that will provide full immersion.
Step3
Remain patient while learning Spanish by immersion. Since you will be in a new place and you likely aren't fluent in Spanish, it will be difficult and frustrating at times. Remain as patient as you can as you allow yourself to pickup the language.
Step4
Ask questions if you are confronted by Spanish words or phrases that you don't understand, but avoid speaking English if at all possible. If you force yourself to communicate in Spanish only, even when you don't know the exact words, people will be glad to help you and you'll learn Spanish even faster.
