Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- 3/4-inch piece of plywood
- Saw
- Bag of 1/2- and 1-inch wood screws
- Screwdriver
- Power strip
- 3 24-by-1/2 inch hinges
Build the Base
Step1
Cut the wood. Cut a piece of plywood 29 inches long and 3 inches wide. Make a 28-1/2-by-3 inch board and two 28-1/2-by-2 inch pieces of wood. Cut two more boards 29 inches long and 1 foot wide. Cut one last board 3 feet long and 3 inches wide.
Step2
Mark 1 foot from the top of the 3 foot boards. From there, measure 1 inch in on both sides the board. Trim one inch off the boards up to the 1-foot line.
Step3
Lay the 29-inch board on a flat surface. Line the 3-foot boards up to the edge of the 29-inch board. The 3-inch end of the 3-foot boards needs to be on top. Nail the boards together. The 29- and 28-1/2-inch boards are the shelves and need to lay flat.
Step4
Measure 6 inches from the top of the boards. Place a 2-by-28-1/2-inch board at the 6 inch mark. Nail the boards together.
Step5
Attach the 28-1/2-by-3 inch board 1 foot from the top.
Step6
Screw the 1-foot board into the back of the top of the frame. The place where the 3-foot boards are cut in one inch is the front of the base.
Step7
Measure 1 inch up from the bottom. Attach the other 28-1/2-inch board.
Step8
Cut a small hole in the plywood backing for the power cord to fit through. Attach the power strip to the plywood. Place it anywhere on the base that works for you.
Make the Work Area and Legs
Step1
Cut the plywood for the legs. Make two leg pieces that are 1-foot wide and 2-feet high. The height may have to be trimmed to fit correctly.
Step2
Attach one hinge to the middle edge of each leg. The top of the base has the 1-foot plywood pieces.
Step3
Measure and cut a board that is 28-1/2 inches long and 1-foot wide.
Step4
Screw a hinge into the bottom edge of the board. Attach it to the 28-1/2-inch board placed one foot from the top.
