Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 4 rainbow-colored or color-changing LED lights
  • 1 5-1/2-inch strip board
  • Wire
  • 3 volt battery pack
  • Switch
  • 2 1-by-4 boards cut 6 inches long
  • 2 1-by-4 boards cut 3 inches long
  • 1 3-1/2-by-6-1/2 inch rectangular board
  • Glue
  • Clear acrylic strips
  • Hand saw
  • Nails
Step1
Attach the lights to the strip board. Place them evenly throughout the board's length.
Step2
Run wires from the lights to the battery and the switch. The wires need to be wrapped around the stem of the lights.
Step3
Glue the strip board to the middle of the rectangular 3-1/2-by-6-1/2 inch board.
Step4
Build a box to hold the light. Make a rectangle with the 6-inch and 3-inch boards. Miter cut the edges so the sides fit together better. Nail the sides together. Lay the rectangular board upside down on the box's frame. Secure it to the sides with nails to complete the box.
Step5
Cut the acrylic strips into different sizes. Angle the end of each piece. Acrylic strips are available at craft and hardware stores. Cut the strips so that when they are placed side by side they make a design. Make anything that works with the room such as a mountain range, a city skyline or an inverted "V" shape.
Step6
Glue the strips into the bottom of the box. The need to lay sideways. Make the design as you glue. The strips must be placed at the front of the box. This is the front of the light.
