VCDs are a cost-effective way to create high quality video disks using CD-Roms instead of DVDS. VCDs hold an hour of video on a standard CD-Rom, and provide stereo sound. Apple's Final Cut Pro software can be used to edit the video, which can then be compiled using Compressor. Read on to learn how to export for VCDs using Compressor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Edit the project as any video project. Render and save the project.

  2. Step 2

Select the sequence to use on the VCD. Under "File" select "Export Using Compressor."

  3. Step 3

Choose "Web Download (QuickTime 6 Compatible)" under "Settings" for the Sequence listed on the Compressor Batch pane. Do not use "DVD:MPEG-1" unless there is less than one hour of video being processed. This setting is higher quality but results in files approximately 30 percent larger than the "Web Download" selection.

  4. Step 4

Select "MPEG-1" from the "Web Download (QuickTime 6 Compatible)" sub-pane.

  5. Step 5

Choose an alternate destination from the drop down list if necessary. Usually, the default is a return to the source of the file. Frequently, delivering of the MPEG-1 file to the desktop is the easiest destination.

  6. Step 6

Insert a blank CD-Rom into the iMac and rename, if desired.

  7. Step 7

Drag the MPEG-1 file into the CD's Finder window and select the "Burn" icon (which looks like a small nuclear warning symbol) next to the disc's name on the right hand side of the Finder pane.
