Remington is a manufacturer of firearms. They manufacture shotguns, rifles and ammunition. Basically, the same procedures hold true for both shotgun and rifle firing. Different makes of shotguns and rifles may load a bit differently. Follow these steps to fire a Remington.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check to make sure the firearm is unloaded. If you start with an empty gun, you make sure that no one else has mishandled the loading of the firearm. Starting with an unloaded weapon puts you in control.

  2. Step 2

Look down the barrel of the firearm to make sure it is clear of obstructions. To be mechanically safe, the shotgun or rifle must be clean and unclogged. On a bolt-action gun, make sure the bolt is in the open position (pull up and back on the lever) to see down the barrel. On an automatic gun, make sure the slide is in the open position. On a break-open gun (single shotgun), break it open by pulling the lever in the middle. Looking down the barrel of the gun, you should be able to see daylight in this step of preparing to fire a Remington.

  3. Step 3

Load the firearm with ammunition. Be sure to use the correct size caliber bullets for the particular gun you are firing.

  4. Step 4

Make sure the gun is pointed in a safe direction, away from bystanders.

  5. Step 5

Place the gun tight against your shoulder and make sure you have a good grip as you prepare to fire a Remington.

  6. Step 6

Squeeze the trigger gently. If you squeeze too hard, you automatically jerk the gun and you won't hit the target.

Tips & Warnings
  • Explosion can occur with a clogged barrel. Make sure you can see daylight when you look down the barrel before you fire a Remington.
  • Protect your eyes and ears. Always wear safety glasses and ear plugs when shooting firearms.
