Vacations are supposed to be a relaxing time to get away with your family but often can be very costly, especially the meals. With soaring gas prices, any way to save money on your vacation is a plus. Follow these tips and you can save money on your vacation meals and have a little extra to put back in your pocket (or your gas tank).

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Buy restaurant gift certificates before you go on vacation on websites like eBay. You can purchase these gift certificates for less than what they are actually worth. For example, you may spend only $25 for a $50 gift certificate.
Step2
Choose a place to stay that offers free breakfast for its guests. Some hotels have complimentary breakfasts that range from coffee and donuts to a full buffet. This gets your day started out great without any extra cash coming out of your pocket.
Step3
Avoid eating your meals or snacks at the airport or other tourist attractions you may be visiting. Although it is convenient, the prices at these places are usually a lot more. Bring food and snacks from home with you if possible. Or you can go to a local grocery store and buy items to fill your refrigerator or kitchen at your hotel or condominium.
Step4
Go to the websites of restaurants in the town or towns your will be visiting and see if they have any coupons or discounts that you can print out. You may also be able to compare prices for meals and various restaurants as well.
Step5
Take some brochures from the state or city welcome center where you are vacationing. You will find that restaurants often advertise in these brochures and can offer coupons and discounts.
Step6
Purchase an Entertainment Book for the city where you will be vacationing. This book has numerous coupons for not only restaurants but other attractions as well.
Step7
Purchase kid's meals when you are eating at fast food restaurants or theme parks, even if you are an adult. It will save money and the meal is usually filling enough for both children and adults.
