Saving money is an important concept to teach children. Many families not only teach their kids how to save, but also how to tithe (give back) 10 percent of the money they earn to God via a church, charity or other organization. This biblical principle of tithing is very important to Christian families and teaching kids at an early age how to tithe will prepare them to continue this as adults.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start talking to your child at an early age about how important it is to tithe and about Biblical obedience.

  2. Step 2

Point out different verses in the Bible that talk about the reasons to tithe.

  3. Step 3

Demonstrate how everyone is responsible for managing his or her own money intelligently and to obey God by giving back part of whatever money he or she has been given.

  4. Step 4

Teach your child how you came up with the amount of money you or he is tithing. If you are giving more or less than 10 percent of your income (since the Bible says to tithe 10 percent), explain why you are doing this.

  5. Step 5

Talk about the idea of giving and tithing with a pleasant demeanor. Try not to fret when you are writing out your tithe check because your child will see that you are not giving willingly, yet reluctantly.

  6. Step 6

Assist your child with putting in place a spending plan with the money they are given such as an allowance or monetary gifts. Teach her to set aside a portion for savings, a portion to spend now if she wants to and at least 10 percent as a tithe.
