Media rooms are all the rage these days. Most of us want one, but few of us are sure how to go about purchasing the necessary equipment so that our room does what it is intended to do now and for years to come. You see the necessary components for a room such as this do not come cheap. Keep reading to discover how to buy the right stuff for your special room.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare a list of the things you want to include in your media room. You will need to know what you want to be able to do in this room before you can determine what equipment you will need to buy. Keep in mind that these rooms are often used for far more than merely watching television or movies so the room will need to be prepared for the other activities that will take place within the walls as well.

  2. Step 2

Draw a diagram of the room and be aware of the layout of the room. This is very important when determining placement of the media equipment you buy as well as the placement of those who will be viewing the television, listening to music, watching movies or working on their computers in this room. You must make sure that you have enough room for the proper distant from the screen, placement of speakers and comfortable seating for all.

  3. Step 3

Establish a budget. This should be one of the first steps that is taken. Budgets exist in all income brackets. Unfortunately, so does media room equipment. While it makes sense to want the best, you must learn to adapt and buy the best your budget will afford.

  4. Step 4

Test sound equipment in the store before making the purchase. There are many components you can purchase sight unseen and still come out all right. This is not true of your home theater sound system. Even with small budgets there are huge differences from one system to the next. Listen in the store and try it before you buy it.

  5. Step 5

Compare prices. When you are buying equipment for your media room you are making a sizable investment. Compare prices and go with the company that offers you the best deal overall.
