Writing recipes for money can be a little difficult to get into, but once you find a few great clients and word of mouth spreads, you could develop a lucrative career writing from home. There are a number of ways to offer your services as a food recipe writer and developer. Use these steps to learn more about how to make money writing food recipes.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what area of food writing you would like to start in. Do you want to submit recipes to magazines? This is an extremely hard way to get published. Can you offer services helping organizations develop recipes and write them either individually or as a cookbook? This could be a great home business. Do you want to develop your own cookbook with your own recipes? You need to have writing and culinary experience. As you can see there are a lot of choices. Weigh your options and pick one.

  2. Step 2

Practice your abilities. Come up with a recipe and test it in your own kitchen. Make sure to serve it to friends or family and get honest feedback. Once you know you are good at what you do, you can move on to the next step.

  3. Step 3

Market yourself and be clear about what you are offering. Present to civic groups and community organizations. Tell them exactly what you do. If one of your services is to simply type or write up clear copies of family cookbooks, then market that to families and individuals.

  4. Step 4

Provide exceptional service, reasonable rates and great follow up. Your best tool for a successful career writing and developing recipes for money is through word of mouth and media compliments.

Tips & Warnings
  • Research your local market to see if there is another company or individual offering the same services in your area.
  • Talk a little about your new venture with people in your community to get feedback about whether or not people will use your services.
