Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Software application
- Spreadsheet
Step1
Open a spreadsheet. For this example we are going to assume we have a spreadsheet with hundreds of items. We want to find the word "appreciate" and replace it with "listen to", but we don't want to necessarily replace it every time.
Step2
Go to "Edit" and "Find and replace". A box will pop up.
Step3
Type "Appreciate" in the box that says "Search for".
Step4
Hit "Find all" and "Find' and all the titles that have "appreciate" in them will be highlighted. Since we want to see each title you hit "Find" and one by one the software will find each cell that contains "appreciate". You need to hit "Find" after each item.
Step5
To replace "appreciate" with "listen to," type "listen to" in the "Replace with" box. Now hit "Find". It will find the first cell with appreciate in it. If you want to replace it, hit "Replace". If you don't want to replace it then hit "Find' and the software will find the next cell with "appreciate" in it.
Step6
Continue to do this until you have replaced all the titles that need changing. You can stop at any time and close the find and replace box. Or you can decide you want to change another title and repeat the above steps with your new "Find" and "Replace" words.
Step7
"Find" can also be used to locate text in your spreadsheet too. Just type in the text you are searching, for example "teach a child," and the software will locate the title. If you have more than one title starting with "teach a child" then you may not find it on the first try, just hit "Find" again and again until the one you want appears.
