How to Stay Calm in a Snow Storm

A snow storm can be scary at times when hail, blizzards and power outages prevail. You and your family should know how to survive and stay calm during a deadly snow storm; it is best to have a plan in such an event. It is much better to be prepared than freezing and starving if a city shuts down because of a strong snow storm. Read on to learn more.

  1. Step 1

    Make sure you have loads of batteries so you can listen to a radio or television station. This will be beneficial for you so you can listen to the weather conditions and if they are going to lighten up or get worse.

  2. Step 2

    Keep flashlights and lamps on hand. Many department stores have inexpensive lamps and candles you can buy before a storm and in case of a power outage.

  3. Step 3

    Pull off the highway if you are in your car when the snow storm takes place. try to stay calm and stay in your vehicle. Make sure you put your hazard lights on and hang a distress flag from the radio antenna. Run your engine to keep warm in the storm and open the window a bit for ventilation and to protect you from carbon monoxide poisoning.

  4. Step 4

    Store enough perishable food items in your house. Choose food items such as canned meats, canned vegetables, dry foods and candy. All these items will help you and your family survive during a snow storm.

  5. Step 5

    Buy a lot of water and keep it in storage. When a snow storm hits you do not know when you will be rescued or when you can drive again to a store. By keeping a lot of water at hand you will be able to be secure and remain calm about the safety of your family.
