Celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday by having a Victoria Day picnic. Her birthday was first celebrated in Canada in 1845 and became a legal holiday in 1901. Originally it was on May 24th, her actual birthday. Today, Canadians celebrate it on the Monday nearest her birthday. Follow these tips to plan a Victoria Day Picnic.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Food, drinks and coolers
  • Barbeque
  • Games
  • Fire works
  • Chairs and blankets
Step1
Plan a great picnic meal. Food always adds to a celebration. Start up the barbeque and serve hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken or steak. Add salads, cut up vegetables and fruit.
Step2
Invite the whole family and make it a potluck meal. Many people have the day off so it's a good time for a get together.
Step3
Make a whole day out of the celebration. Start with games and finger foods in the morning. Bring out the cold cuts and cold drinks at lunch. Go swimming or play sports in the afternoon. End the day with fire works at night.
Step4
Decide on your location. Many cities have Victoria Day celebrations. Go to a pubic park and enjoy the fun or have a private celebration in your back yard or at a campsite.
Step5
Bring chairs and blankets. Make lists for other people if you are having a large crowd. It's bound to be hot so bring lots of sunscreen and mosquito spray.
Step6
Plan activities for people of all ages. You can set up games, sports, swimming and crafts.
Step7
Plan a fire works display or have sparklers for the kids. Find a public fireworks display if you don't want to set off your own.

Tips & Warnings

  • Put lots of ice in your cooler.
  • Don't leave any children unattended near water.
  • Don't leave food out in the sun too long.
