How to Train for Road Biking in the Off-Season
Road biking is becoming an extremely popular sport. However, in most places, road biking becomes difficult in the fall and winter months due to weather. The off-season is a great time to find new ways to enjoy cycling, or try something new. Either way, the off-season offers many ways to train and have fun.

1
Buy a trainer. Trainers are pieces of equipment that is hooked up to the back wheel of the bike. They keep the bike in place while allowing the rider to pedal away just like they are riding outside.
-
2
Brave the cold. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Wear layers, and ensure the outer layer protects from the elements such as wind or precipitation. Gloves and caps are also recommended. Many cyclists train outdoors in the off-season.

3
Focus on cross-training. Swimming or running are great sports to try in the off season. Both complement cycling by working other important muscles. Training in other disciplines increases overall fitness and can help performance in biking also.
-
4
Try something new. Eliminate training monotony and boredom by trying something completely different in the off-season. Raquetball, volleyball or any other sport unrelated to cycling can be a breath of fresh air to a stale workout routine.
-
5
Lift weights. Weight training is very beneficial to cyclists. The off-season is a great time to start a weight lifting routine.

6
Attend spin classes. Spin classes are stationary cycling classes with an instructor and music to make the workout more fun. These are high intensity classes that are offered at many gyms. This is a great way to train if weather makes outdoor road biking impossible, and group cycling is desired.
