If you live in Kansas and are interested in ways to pimp your ride, consider applying for a specialty license plate. Kansas' Department of Revenue offers a number of distinctive plates to suit your interests, hobbies, accomplishments or profession.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Logon to Kansas' official website at ksrevenue.org.
Step2
Click on "Your Vehicle" and "Distinctive License Plates."
Step3
Browse through the various specialty license plates offered by the state of Kansas. Choose from educational institutions, military, agriculture, children's causes and more. Read the eligibility requirements, fees and sponsoring organization information.
Step4
Decide on a specialty license plate based on your preference and personal eligibility. Download the form corresponding to the specialty license plate you are interested in obtaining.
Step5
Complete the application. Provide your personal information and your vehicle's information as required. Use your current vehicle's registration card as a reference. Contact the sponsoring organization of the plate, as required. If your plate is sponsored by a private organization, you must contact the organization associated with the plate before you will be able to acquire a specialty license plate at your county treasurer's office.
Step6
Remit the form to the sponsoring organization. Include a check payable to the sponsoring organization as part of the required fees or donations for the plate.
Step7
Receive a certification letter from the sponsoring organization in the mail.
Step8
Take the certification to your county treasurer's office and present it to the county treasurer or an official agent of the county treasurer.
Step9
Place the order for your specialty plates.
Step10
Receive your specialty plates within a few weeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • You must renew your specialty license plates every year before they expire. Your sponsoring organization may offer to send you a renewal notice, but it is your responsibility to renew them at the county treasurer's office yearly.
