How to Get a Specialty License Plate in Georgia

Getting a specialty license plate in Georgia is as an easy process that begins with logging onto Georgia's official website. Simply decide on one of Georgia's many specialty license plates, download its corresponding order form, take it to your county Tag office and place your order. Read on to learn more.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Logon to Georgia's official website at ga.gov.

  2. Step 2

    Click on "Agencies" and "Department of Revenue." Select "Tag and Title" and "Special Tag Examples and Requirements."

  3. Step 3

    View the specialty license plates offered. Choose from college, government, military and special interest plates. Read over the specialty's license plate information. Note fees and eligibility requirements.

  4. Step 4

    Download the form corresponding to the specialty license plate you are interested in acquiring. These forms are available on each specialty license plate page.

  5. Step 5

    Complete the application. Provide your personal information and your vehicle's information as requested. Contact the sponsoring organization of the plate and advise them that you are placing an order for one of their specialty plates, if required.

  6. Step 6

    Visit your county Tag office. Take your completed application, a valid identification card, your vehicle's current registration and an approval notice from the sponsoring organization (if applicable) with you.

  7. Step 7

    Pay the required fees for your specialty license plate. Make a check out to the Office of the Tax Commissioner.

  8. Step 8

    Pick up your specialty license plates from your county Tag office after you are advised that they are available.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some specialty license plates may only be available during certain periods of the year. Make sure that the plate is available for purchase before completing an application and visiting your county Tag office.
