The cricket box is convenient for transporting crickets to your favorite fishing spot. With a little care, crickets can live for weeks in this container.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 8-by-34-inch Piece Heavy-gauge Screen Mesh
  • Hot Glues And Staples
  • Two-liter Soda Bottles
  • Scissors
  • Coping Saws
  • two 8-by-8-inch pieces of 3/4-inch wood

Step1
Cut two 8-by-8 inch pieces from ¾-inch wood.
Step2
Cut a piece of heavy-gauge screen wire about 8 inches wide by 34 inches long.
Step3
Cut off the top and bottom of a two-liter soda bottle.
Step4
Cut a 2-inch-tall plastic ring from the middle of the soda bottle.
Step5
Trace the outline of the plastic ring onto one piece of wood.
Step6
Cut a hole out of the wood by cutting along the trace line with a coping saw. This is the cricket box top.
Step7
Attach screen wire around the base of the other piece of wood, overlapping the ends of the wire 1-2 inches.
Step8
Hot glue or staple the plastic ring inside the hole you cut in the top of the box. Make sure the top of the plastic ring is flush with top of board.
Step9
Place top board inside cage - top flush with wire. Plastic ring should point inside cricket box.
Step10
Staple the wire frame to the wooden top.
Step11
Fold the corners square.

Tips & Warnings

  • The plastic ring placed inside the top of the box prevents the crickets from climbing out of the box. Crickets usually jump at an angle so the ring stops them from jumping.
