Whether you are a new nonprofit or have been around awhile, it's important to keep your people trained about your organization and the world of nonprofits. Training can also provide great ideas on how to grow your organization and increase the number of people you help. Use these steps to learn about nonprofit training opportunities in the form of seminars, consulting companies and partnerships to help take your nonprofit to the next level.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Attend workshops on different areas that apply to your nonprofit, such as the Managing Your Volunteers workshop by Create the Future. Workshops are not only a great way to gain new information; they are also a great way to train your entire Board of Directors at one time. Groups are often offered discounts for attending the workshop.

  2. Step 2

Join a nonprofit resource community, like Technical Assistance for Community Services in Oregon. These groups offer services including consulting, customized training, executive transitioning, small organization services, professional networking events and technology assistance services among other things. Take full advantage of your membership.

  3. Step 3

Check out places like the Center for Nonprofit Management. They are located in Southern California, but help nonprofits all over the country with setting up solid leadership and training those members to be able to train other employees and volunteers.

  4. Step 4

Use the Foundation Center for a more rounded approach. They are not geared towards any certain type of nonprofit organization or specifically for training management. They offer subjects like fundraising, grant writing, growing your organization and many others.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that all the members on your Board of Directors have completed training in all areas of your organization, even if they are handling one specific area. This will allow for fill-ins and assistance when needed.
