How to Help a Child Adjust to a New Daycare
Changing daycares is a hard thing for a child to adjust to. Switching daily routines, leaving teachers he's comfortable with and being in a brand-new environment is hard on a child. However, children switch daycare facilities all the time, whether due to a move or the personal preference of the parents. Although difficult, there are several ways to make it easier on the child and his new teachers.

1
Plan a visit ahead of the start date. Take the child along. Show the child all the new and exciting things at the new daycare.
-
2
Start slowly. Take the child for half days at first if possible. This allows the child time to get used to the new daycare while not becoming overwhelmed.

-
3
Take a favorite toy along. Some daycare facilities have rules regarding toys brought from home, so make sure to ask first.
-
4
Talk to the teachers. Let them know of any special needs or issues the child has. This helps the teachers make the child comfortable and at ease.
-
5
Prepare the child by talking about the change. Name his new teachers, talk about new friends and the new routine he will have to adjust to.
-
6
Expect the first week or two to be rough. Children thrive on routine. Disrupting her routine by changing her daycare is hard for her to adjust to.
-
7
Ask for advice. The teachers at his new school have seen several children who have switched daycares. They may have advice that can help the child adjust more quickly.
