Project management professionals play an important role for companies. They plan, monitor and manage projects so they are completed as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Without effective project management, companies would lose money hand over fist. If you are a project manager in need of a project to manage, then follow these steps to find a job in your field.

From Quick Guide: Project Management Jobs
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Evaluate your skills and experience. Use this information to figure out what types of project management jobs you will qualify for. For example, if you have a degree in accounting and experience working with a C.P.A. firm, then you will be more qualified for managing a project that deals with numbers than you would a project that deals with personnel issues.

  2. Step 2

Search your local job finding resources for possible leads. Your local newspaper will have listings for available project management jobs posted under "Professional Positions" or "Technical Positions." The category that you will need to look under will depend on the types of projects you want to management.

  3. Step 3

Take advantage of your local employment agencies. You will have the best luck using employment agencies that focus on skilled professionals and white-collar jobs, as opposed to using a temp service. You may also want to visit your local government job service. Here you will find job listings for federal, state and local government project management jobs.

  4. Step 4

Go online to find project management jobs. Use general job search websites like Monster or Jobster. Make sure to narrow down your search by entering search criteria that make sense to you. For example, you may want to search for project management jobs in Chicago that are full time and pay over $80,000 a year. On the other hand, you may be more interested in a project management job in Seattle that is 30 hours a week or less and that pays between $40,000 and $60,000 a year.

  5. Step 5

Utilize job websites that specialize in project management job searches, such as the "Project Management" job search portal on Dice.
