Customer service is an expansive field encompassing a variety of jobs that deal directly with public consumers. From claims and billing to customer complaint resolution, customer service employees are a vital part of keeping any business running. Here are some tips to remember when writing a resume for a customer service job.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get help from the experts. There are resume-writing guides available at your local library or bookstore that help you through every step of writing a proficient resume. Many job-hunting websites will also offer tips and guides on writing resumes and some provide pre-written templates that simply require you to input your personal information. Utilizing these sources helps you write a polished and well-formed resume.

  2. Step 2

Organize your resume. If you are not using a template program that organizes your information for you, begin by writing an outline of your resume. This allows you to plan out where to include which information and make sure that it flows smoothly before putting together the finished resume.

  3. Step 3

Include any relevant extras. Customer service is all about having good communication skills when dealing with the public. If you have any extra experience that helps you excel in the customer service field, such as public speaking classes in college or volunteer work in which you dealt with people from diverse backgrounds, include this information in your resume. This shows your potential employer that you are an accomplished and well-rounded individual with skills that set you apart from the other candidates.

  4. Step 4

Give information in moderation. Give a thorough employment history in your resume, but don't necessarily include every job you've ever had. List jobs where you have worked for a long period of time and have a positive work history or where you acquired customer service skills relevant to the position for which you are applying. Your prospective employer gains a lot more insight into your potential with information about recent customer-service related jobs than by reading about your babysitting job in high school. Remember that you are trying to paint the best picture of yourself possible when deciding which jobs and experiences to include in your resume.
