So you're ready to buy a projector that you can hook up to your computer? But how can you tell if your computer will work with the projector you want? All you have to do is follow these steps, and you'll be able to get a projector that is compatible with your computer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Know what the make and model your computer processor is as well as the operating system you're using. Although many projectors will work with Windows or Mac, you might need a specific version for your computer and projector to work together.
Step2
Figure out if you have a free PCI slot. These are internal slots that some projectors require. You can figure out if your computer has one by opening up your tower or looking through your computer's manuals.
Step3
Make a list of all of the in-ports your computer has. It might have USB, USB2 or others. Knowing what will plug in to your computer will help you choose a projector with that capability.
Step4
Figure out what resolution of video your computer will play at. Again, you can probably find this information in your computer's manuals. Some projectors might not run at incredibly fast speeds. So it's good to know this information before you go shopping for a projector.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many digital projectors that are typically used for home entertainment systems are compatible with a variety of computers and they usually come with the cables needed to connect the projector to your computer.
