Makeover your tired bedroom into an elegant retreat for free. With a little creativity on your part, your tired old accessories and furnishings can be reinvigorated and rearranged easily to create a stylish and fun look.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take out everything from your bedroom and do a thorough cleaning. This wipes the slate clean, and you can start your makeover with fresh ideas.

  2. Step 2

Find the perfect place for your bed. This will depend upon the size and shape of your bedroom. Don't forget that the bed can be placed at an angle in a corner; sometimes, this gives the room an interesting new twist.

  3. Step 3

Look at the natural lighting in your bedroom. The more light, the better! Remove dark or out-of-date curtains. If you need privacy or a dark room at night, use your old sheets. Sheets can be very stylish and economical window coverings, especially if they're free! There are great ideas all over the Internet to give you hanging ideas.

  4. Step 4

Bring in only your necessary furniture. If your room is small, think about placing your dresser in a closet. An extra set of sheets used as slipcovers can also makeover your old love seat or easy chair.

  5. Step 5

Place your furniture in groupings if you have a large bedroom. Have a separate sitting area on one end of the room with two chairs and a table. Locate your bed on the opposite side of the room.

  6. Step 6

Make up your bed in a new way to create an expensive look for free. Instead of pulling up your bedspread to the top of the bed, give it two neat folds down toward the end of the bed. Stand your pillows up at the head and place any decorator pillows in front. TV host Rachael Ray demonstrates this makeover look on her website.

  7. Step 7

Walk through your home and look for pictures, candles, lamps and other accessories that possess similar features or colors. Group the lamps and accessories on your nightstands, dressers and tables.
