How to Sign Up for Sirius Radio

Sirius satellite radio offers diverse programming without the constant commercials of FM radio stations. After you buy a Sirius receiver, you'll need to setup a membership before you can start listening. You need to know a few things about the different kinds of service before you sign up for Sirius radio.

Sign Up for Sirius Radio

1. Write down the SID number for your Sirius radio. This identification number can be found under the bar code of your Sirius box and is often written on the literature that comes with your radio. You'll need to keep this number and your credit card nearby to make sign-up go quickly.

2. Install your Sirius radio receiver. It's fairly easy to install these units if you follow the instructions, but you can have someone do it for you if you aren't comfortable working with stereo wires. Remember to set up the antenna so that its facing the southern sky.

3. Choose a Sirius radio plan that suits your needs. There are a variety of different personal plans and you can either pay monthly, yearly or pay a one-time lifetime fee. Business will need to buy a special package in order to use Sirius in an office setup.

4. Call Sirius at (888) 539-SIRIUS or set up an account on its website to complete your installation (see Resources below). Activation should only take an hour after you activate your receiver.

5. Tell the Sirius representative if you want to block out adult content from your radio. Some talk shows have adult themes that are inappropriate for children or an office setting. There are ways to lock out certain channels but still be able to access them with a special code, so you can listen when your children aren't around.

6. Browse through your Sirius channels to make sure you're getting them all. Most units have a "seek" button that automatically changes stations every 30 seconds.

• Different traffic and weather channels can be added to your Sirius subscription for an additional monthly cost.

• You need a visual navigation system in your car or boat in order to use Sirius' weather and traffic add-ons.

• Some new stereos come with Sirius equipment already built in, so you just need to set up the antenna and call Sirius for activation.

• Internet Sirius subscriptions are separate from radio accounts and only require an active Internet connection to listen.
