Instructions

  1. Activate a Fax Gateway Service

    • 1

Ask your corporate system administrator if your company or organization already subscribes to a fax gateway service that can deliver faxes to your email account.

    • 2

Synchronize your email accounts on your Blackberry and your desktop computer so that you maintain the ability to print out faxed messages from your desktop after viewing them on your Blackberry.

    • 3

Activate a fax gateway service account with eFax or Faxaway with a new fax number that you provide to key contacts (see Resources below). Expect to pay an inexpensive monthly fee with some additional per-unit charges for sending and receiving faxes.

    • 4

Provide the fax gateway service with an email address that you have already added to your Blackberry's "Email Accounts" list. Faxes sent to your fax number will now appear as PDF attachments to messages sent to your Blackberry's "Message" List.

Begin checking for an expected fax by using your track-wheel to click on "Messages" from the Home Screen.

    • 6

Check your message list for a heading such as "You have received a fax" with the paper clip icon next to it. This icon indicates the presence of an attachment.

    • 7

Use the track-wheel to scroll to the email message that contains your fax and press "Enter" on your keyboard to open the email.

    • 8

Press the track-wheel while viewing your email and select "Open Attachment." You will then see a portion of the fax on the screen.

    • 9

Select the "Full Contents" option and use the track-wheel to click on "Retrieve" to begin scrolling through the entire fax.

    • 10

Press the "ESC" key after viewing the fax to return to the message and press "ESC" again to navigate to the "Message" List.

Tips & Warnings

  • Update the Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader that comes with your Blackberry regularly to ensure that you have the latest version available. Being up to date is important because the faxes you receive through your fax-email gateway will always be in PDF form.
