Reduce Shine

This one’s tricky. You want to keep your radiant glow, but you can quickly overcompensate. Don’t be tempted to attack oily, shiny skin with harsh astringent lotions and potions. The sebaceous glands will simply over react by producing more oil, giving you the opposite of what you were going for. Here are a few tricks on how to battle those oily glands on your face.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gentle foaming face wash
  • Alcohol-free toner
  • Water-based moisturizer
  • Filtered water
  • Paper towel
  • Clay mask
  • Fresh greens
  1. Step 1

Wash your face with a gentle foaming wash twice a day, exfoliate regularly and use an alcohol-free toner with glycolic acid.

  2. Step 2

Choose the right moisturizer for your skin. Use gels instead of the creams for a more matte-like effect on your skin. They are not as moisturizing as the creams, but they are light and don’t clog pores. You can always add a few drops of pure vitamin E in the gel for a more moisturizing effect.

  3. Step 3

Remember what you put on and in your body affects your skin. Cut back on saturated and hydrogenated fats. Include extra green veggies and fresh green salads every day. Drink lots of filtered water.

  4. Step 4

Never use face blotting paper, as they will cause the opposite effect that you are trying to get rid of. By using them, your skin will turn oilier half and hour later, because the oil glands will start to produce more oil to replenish what it lost. Try using just a paper towel and gently pat the skin.

  5. Step 5

Also use pore refining clay-based mask once a week to remove a dead cells and reduce oil production.
