Things You'll Need:
- Face wash
- Face scrub
- Toner
- Dried herbs
- Essential oils
- Bowl and towel
- Clay mask
- And a smile on your face
-
Step 1
Cleanse. Stop using that bar of soap and remember to wash your face every night! Proper cleansing keeps your pores clean by removing dirt and oil from the surface of the skin. Use a gentle foaming cleanser if you have normal-to-dry skin and emollient cleanser for dry and sensitive skin.
-
Step 2
Exfoliate. Approximately every three weeks, new cells surface from the lowest layer of the skin. Sometimes old cells stick around longer than they should. Exfoliation helps the natural process along by giving those cells little extra push. Try exfoliating by using a face scrub, every other day for oilier skin and once a week for sensitive skin.
-
Step 3
Tone. If you have normal-to-oily skin, use an alcohol-free toner that has glycolic acid as well as Witch Hazel. This will create the shrunken-pores effect you’re after!
-
Step 4
Steam. Everyone’s favorite--a herbal face steam. If using fresh herbs, pour boiling water over herbs (rosemary, sage, or comfrey), let cool for a few seconds, then get ready to enjoy! You can also use a few drops of lavender essential oils. Sit about 18-inches away from the bowl and drape a towel over your head. Not only is this good for your skin, but the soul. Take time to close your eyes, breathe deep and enjoy this soothing treatment. Steam for no more than five to eight minutes. Follow with an exfoliating mask (Step 5).
-
Step 5
Deep Cleaning. Once a week use an exfoliating or clay-based tightening mask.
You can also make your own mask:
4 tbsp. French (green) clay
2 tsp. honey
2 tsp. water
4 drops of lavender essential oil
Mix all the ingredients. Apply on the face and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Follow with toner and moisturizer. Enjoy!
