How to Change an iTunes Music Player Default

The default settings for the iTunes Music Player can be changed in a few moderately easy steps. Here is how you can change the settings and advanced defaults on your iTunes Media Player.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with iTunes Media Player
  1. Step 1
    iTunes Menu.
     
    iTunes Menu.

    Locate and 'Click on the 'Edit' tab on iTunes menu bar. Then select the 'Preferences' tab at the bottom of the 'Edit' drop down bar.

  2. Step 2

    Select the 'Preferences' menu tab that you wish to change the settings for and make your new choices. The menu tabs include:
    'General', 'Podcasts', 'Playback', 'Sharing', 'Store', 'Apple TV', 'Advanced' and Parental. (For iTunes 2007 an iPhone tab has also been added.)

  3. Step 3

    To change specific advanced defaults select the 'Advanced' tab.
    The 'Advanced' menu includes:
    1. 'General' defaults such as your choice of Folder location and Streaming Buffer size.
    2. 'Importing' defaults such as selecting the Encoder you want to use to import your CDs (mp3, AAC, wave) and choosing the Setting Quality.
    3. 'Burning' defaults for selecting Preferred Speeds or the Disc Format of your choice.

  4. Step 4

    Make the choices that will maximize your listening pleasure. And enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • iTunes can also be used with Apple's Podcast and iPhone.
  • Remember iTunes is also a Video player and the Apple store has plenty of videos to choose from.
  • Although iTunes allows song sharing, the songs can be streamed to your friends but they won't be able to save them on their hard drive.
