Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Just what nature gave you
Step1
Decide where you want to build a brush pile and how large you want it to be. A fence corner or other areas abutting feeding or nesting areas are ideal for wildlife.
Step2
Consider planting a flowering vine, such as clematis or jasmine, underneath your brush pile. To add color, place a Shepherd Hook with a bird feeder or hanging basket for wildlife and so the vine can climb.
Step3
Crisscross two to four layers of larger branches (6-inch diameter) evenly spaced for the base. Oak, locust and other durable tree branches are best or you can use stones or cinder blocks.
Step4
Toss smaller branches, twigs and brush on top of the base to form a mound. You can also use small trees, shrubs or Christmas wreaths.
Step5
Build on to the brush pile a little every year.
