Bringing entertainment with you while you're on the road is one way to keep your passengers happy and entertained. Whether you are on vacation with the kids or traveling for work, a DVD player for your car can help your passengers wile away the hours with ease.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look for a tablet-style portable DVD player. These models are easily mounted into your car's head rest(s). They can also be inserted into a specially-designed DVD player carrying case hung on the back of the front seats of the car, turning your car into a mobile home theater.

  2. Step 2

Check out the battery life for the DVD players you are interested in for your car. Unless it is equipped with an AC adaptor to plug into your car's cigarette lighter or auxiliary power outlet, your viewing time will be limited by the amount of power its battery holds--most likely only about 2 to 3 hours.

  3. Step 3

Find a portable DVD player with a large enough screen so that all your passengers can enjoy the show. A good guideline is to consider players with a screen of 7 or more inches.

  4. Step 4

Keep multiple passengers entertained in a larger car by buying a portable DVD player with dual screens. These can be mounted in multiple rows of your SUV or van and may even be outfitted with individual speakers or headphone outlets to allow viewers to adjust their own volume levels.

  5. Step 5

Spend a little more when you buy a portable DVD player for your car which features progressive scan. This feature allows for your DVDs to be played at a higher picture quality.

  6. Step 6

Select a DVD player which can easily be stowed if you plan on parking your car or van in an unsupervised area. You can help prevent potential theft by keeping your DVD player and other valuables out of sight while you are not in your vehicle.

  7. Step 7

Look for extra features, such as MP3 playback and digital image display if you want to make the most of your car's DVD player. Many models come with both DVD input and memory disc or image card drives.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy a Y-adapter to accommodate two sets of headphones on one portable DVD player if you have more than one passenger in your car.
  • Give your passengers more freedom to select their own volume levels when you buy headphones which feature on-board volume control.
