An architectural designer, or building designer, is an architect that mainly focuses on the appearance or form of a building or landscape with regards to construction aspects that go into the building. Within an architectural firm or team, architectural designers are responsible for the style or form of the final project. The person best suited to become an architectural designer is creative, artistic and imaginative.

Step1
Enroll in the high school courses that can prepare you to become an architectural engineer. Such courses include calculus, drafting, English, physics, geometry and science.
Step2
Consult resources like the Association of Collegiate Schools in Architecture to narrow your search for the best schools in architectural design (see Resources below).
Step3
Ask whether the school you apply to is properly accredited with the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Step4
Obtain the proper experience and training with AutoCAD, AutoPlan and other design software. Your program of study will provide this experience.
Step5
Develop your skills in communication, small group work and leadership. These skills are crucial when working with other architectural and engineering professionals.
Step6
Seek summer employment or an internship with an architectural firm. Learn about openings from your academic counselor or in the classified ads.

Research professional associations, such as the American Institute of Architects, that provide mentoring and networking opportunities for aspiring architectural designers.
