How to Fix a Conservatory Roof Leak

Conservatories are ideal places for growing decorative plants and flowers. Generally, these structures are attached to the back of a house and constructed of wood and glass, vinyl and glass or aluminum and glass. The sunlight is able to reach practically any point inside the enclosure and it transmits warmth through the glass panes. However, a projectile thrown by the wind, such as a tree branch, may crack the glass roof necessitating the need to repair the roof to keep moisture out. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Set a ladder against the side of your conservatory, then put on rubber gloves. Pour mineral spirits onto a scrub sponge and climb the ladder.

    • 2

Scrub over the leak in your conservatory's roof with the mineral spirits'-soaked sponge to remove all the dirt and grime from the surface. Allow the mineral spirits to evaporate away from the conservatory roof.

    • 3

Climb down the ladder and set the sponge aside. Grab a plastic putty knife and a small can of clear marine-grade silicon sealant. Climb back up the ladder and spread the clear sealant with the plastic putty knife. Let it dry according to the manufacturer's recommended drying time.

    • 4

Gently abrade the silicone patch with fine-grit sandpaper once the silicone has completely dried to smooth it and better blend it with the conservatory roof. Wipe with a tack cloth once smooth and blended.

    • 5

Spritz the silicone patch with window cleaner once sanded and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth to finish. Your conservatory roof should now be fixed.
