How to Become a State Trooper in Louisiana

      Contact the Louisiana State Police Commission at (225) 925-7057 to start the application process.

      Have a valid drivers license, be a United States citizen, have a high school diploma and be 21 years old to qualify to become a Louisiana State Trooper.

      Pass written and oral exams given by the State Police Commission to complete the next step in the selection process.

      Complete the physical assessment part of the process. This test comprises push-ups, sit-ups and a 1.5 mile run that is timed.

      Undergo a background investigation and a polygraph test. After these are successfully passed, you will have a medical and psychological evaluation. An offer of a place in the training academy will come only after all phases of the process are finished.
