How to Become a State Trooper in Louisiana
Each day is different when you are a member of the force that protects and patrols the highways of the State of Louisiana. The selection process is long and difficult but when you succeed in passing all the requirements, you will have a career in which you can take pride. Contact the Louisiana State Police Commission at (225) 925-7057 to start the application process.

Have a valid drivers license, be a United States citizen, have a high school diploma and be 21 years old to qualify to become a Louisiana State Trooper.

Pass written and oral exams given by the State Police Commission to complete the next step in the selection process.

Complete the physical assessment part of the process. This test comprises push-ups, sit-ups and a 1.5 mile run that is timed.

Undergo a background investigation and a polygraph test. After these are successfully passed, you will have a medical and psychological evaluation. An offer of a place in the training academy will come only after all phases of the process are finished.

You must pass every step of the selection process in order to move to the next phase and be offered a position as a Louisiana State Trooper.
Do not bother to apply if you have any moral conduct issues in your past. Louisiana State Troopers are looked at as role models in the state.
Be aware that the process to become a Louisiana State Trooper can take upward of nine to 12 months.
