How to Become a State Trooper in Kentucky

The Kentucky State Police is comprised of officers who serve the people of Kentucky in the largest law enforcement division in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. As a State Trooper, you will be asked to protect highways and roads, help out those in need and be a role model in your actions. Read on to find out how to become a Kentucky State Trooper.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Valid drivers license
  • High school diploma or GED
Step1
Obtain an application to become a part of the Kentucky State Patrol by contacting Human Resources at (866) 360-3165, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Step2
Be at least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States to qualify for application.
Step3
Have a valid drivers license and a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Step4
Take the written exam and have an oral interview. Once these are successfully completed, you will undergo a background check and submit to a polygraph test.
Step5
Pass a medical and psychological exam and you will be offered a spot at the Kentucky State Police Academy to train for your career serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tattoos and body piercings must be able to be covered while in uniform.
  • Don't make any false statements when applying to become a Kentucky State Trooper. This will automatically get you evicted from the hiring process.
