A turducken is a turkey stuffed with a chicken stuffed with a duck stuffed with stuffing. It is usually offered to guests at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and sometimes Easter to add a bit of flare to the holiday meal. There are many variations on the turducken and it is even said that anyone can make their own. But, here is how to buy a turducken for your next get-together.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a head count on guests. The turducken comes in different sizes. The smaller 10 pound turducken will feed 10 to 14 people. The larger turducken will feed as many as 20 people. Keep in mind that some people might be turned off by the concept and want traditional food. Count them out of the head count. Feed children 1/4 to 1/2 of an adult portion.

  2. Step 2

Find the best turducken seller. There are several on the market and it will depend on your tastes. The Cajun turduckens are good but may be too spicy for some guests. Buy the turducken that friends and your butcher recommends. The concept is gaining ground and there will be plenty of people in the meat business to add their opinion.

  3. Step 3

Buy a turducken online. The mail order turducken will come frozen and should be in a vacuum-sealed bag for added freshness. The turducken must arrive within the given time frame for freshness; return it if it arrives late.

  4. Step 4

Buy a turducken at your local supermarket. The local markets only sell turduckens at holiday times and they go fast. Pre-order the turducken to assure the arrival of the turducken to your dining room table. Contact your local wholesale food stores like Costco, Sam's Club, or BJ's wholesalers. Ask if they will be getting this new dish and to reserve one.

  5. Step 5

Be prepared to pay for your precious new holiday dish. The birds cost around $70.
