Step 1
Your family doctor or regular dentist may also know where to find a good cosmetic dentist. Check with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. They have a website that lists cosmetic dentists in various area.
-
Step 2
Check to see if your cosmetic dentist is certified in your state and has proper credentials and training. Check with the local clerk of court for any malpractice cases against the dentist. Also ask about how much experience the dentist has had performing the particular procedure you want done.
-
Step 3
Talk to former patients who have had your procedure done. Look at before and after photos of the same procedure you want done. If the dentist does not have any photos of the procedure, ask them why and consider going to a different dentist.
-
Step 4
Go to the dentist for an initial consultation. With most cosmetic dentists, this consultation is free. Ask questions, discuss procedures, costs and expectations on this first visit. If you don't feel comfortable, choose a different cosmetic dentist and go for a second opinion.
-
Step 5
Ask questions about the dentist, his experience in your procedure, details involved in the procedure, follow-up care, payment and financing options and number of treatments required.
