Step 1
Visit museums to see their collections. Look at the overall condition of the bears including the eyes and fur. This is a good way to learn what makes a teddy bear a collectible.
-
Step 2
Get an antique teddy bear price guide. Be familiar with the prices of the bears you own as well as any you want to add to your collection.
-
Step 3
Know the manufacturers. Some, like Steiff, are worth more than others. Decide which ones you want to collect and learn the trademarks of those manufacturers.
-
Step 4
Look for antique teddy bears will original eyes, joints and tags. These are more valuable than their counterparts without.
-
Step 5
Prepare a place to display your collection of antique teddy bears. A glass enclosure is ideal to keep dust out, but keep it out of the sun.
-
Step 6
Clean your bears regularly. Take them out of the case and vacuum their fur. Occasionally wipe them down with a damp cloth too, all to keep their fur clean.
