Using a digital camera is much like using a regular camera. The most difficult part of shooting with a digital camera is figuring out how to use all of the features. With a quick run through the owner's manual and a few tips, digital photography will quickly replace your 35mm film.

From Quick Guide: Choose a New Camera
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

For general picture use, use the automatic setting on the camera. Point, center and shoot the photo. The camera will make adjustments for focus and flash.

  2. Step 2

Use the close up setting for close up shots. Do not use the auto options because the photos will come out blurry.

  3. Step 3

Use a continuous mode or action setting for action shots. Snap action shots just a few seconds before the shot you want to capture.

  4. Step 4

Use the night time setting for photographs taken at night or in a dark room. Use a tripod to stabilize the camera because movement will cause the photo to blur.

  5. Step 5

Set the camera to the landscape mode for distant and landscape pictures. Use this setting so that the camera will focus on the distant scenery instead of objects close up.

  6. Step 6

Set the camera to the video setting to take live video. Move close to the subject in order to get the best sound quality.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stabilize the camera for night shots on a table, chair, car or other stable surface if you do not have a tripod.
  • Practice taking action shots before using the camera for actual action photos.
  • Use the auto setting if the sports setting on the camera takes blurry shots.
