Step 1
Book your flight well in advance. Ask the airline about bringing your pet on board with you if it is small enough. Ask about arrangements if your pet must be loaded into the cargo area. Some airlines only allow a certain amount of animals per flight, so book as early as possible.
-
Step 2
Bring your pet to a veterinarian for a health check-up and to receive any vaccinations needed before traveling. You also need health papers and papers verifying that the animal has had vaccinations. Keep these papers with you at all times. Make copies and put them in your luggage.
-
Step 3
Take a few pictures of your pet. Make sure they clearly show all markings and can be used to easily identify your pet. Attach a picture on the crate that your pet is traveling in and keep a picture with you and one in your luggage. This can help if your pet escapes.
-
Step 4
Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with identification and contact information on it. Have your home phone, cell phone and a number where you can be reached at your destination written clearly on a tag on the collar. Have your home address and destination address on a tag also.
-
Step 5
Write your contact information on the side of the carrier that your pet is riding in. In the event that your pet is lost, this information may reunite you with your pet. Also, write "Live Animal" on the sides and top of the crate so handlers know to be careful.
