Step 1
Buy a digital camera that offers Image Stabilization or an Anti-Shake feature. This greatly reduces the amount of accidentally blurry pictures taken. This mode also offers a better solution to camera shake at greater zoom distances.
-
Step 2
Use a tripod whenever possible. Purchase a quality, heavy-duty tripod if the camera will see a lot of outdoor usage. The heavier the unit, the better it will control the camera shake and won't tip over in a mild breeze. Consider buying a tripod that has a pan-head feature, which allows a greater range of tilt and pan options for the camera.

Step 3
Brace an arm or shoulder against a steady or sturdy object nearby. This will help any shake to the camera by keeping the shooter steady for the shot. When no object is near to use, keep elbows tucked in at the waist and keep a firm grasp on the camera. Take a short breath before releasing the shutter.

Step 4
Pre-focus the image on the camera's viewfinder before pressing the shutter release. Compose the shot on the viewfinder and then press the shutter button down halfway to auto-focus the subject. While still holding the shutter button down halfway, completely press the button and take the shot.
