An Oscar themed party is one that can have as much bling, glitz and glamour as you can stand. Invite friends who love movies and movie stars and roll out the "red carpet" for a night of fun. Follow the steps below to plan an Oscar party.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Invitations
  • Party food
  • Champagne
  • China dishes
  • Crystal glasses
  • Roll of red plastic sheeting
  • Disposable cameras
  • Name tags
  • Oscar ballots
  • Small trophy
  • Goodie bags
  1. Step 1

Determine the date of the Oscar show and invite friends over for your party that night. Create an invitation that reflects the theme of the party such as a movie clapboard with the party info, or a balloon with an info tag delivered personally to each guest. Ask guests to dress up for the evening.

  2. Step 2

Decide on a menu. The richer and more elegant the food, the better. Skip the beer and get plenty of champagne. Given the elegance of the evening, it is not unreasonable to use china and crystal instead of paper plates and Dixie cups.

  3. Step 3

Enlist some teenagers, your own or neighborhood kids, to be "paparazzi" for the evening. Get a roll of red plastic and use it as your "red carpet". As guests arrive have the kids, with disposable cameras, take their pictures.

  4. Step 4

Plan some games for the Oscar party. Have guests write the name of their favorite movie star on a tag to wear for the evening. This should produce some lively conversation and serve as an ice breaker for guests who don't know each other. Use the commercial breaks to play movie trivia.

  5. Step 5

Pass out ballots to vote for Oscar winners before the show begins. The guest with the most correct answers wins a prize. A small trophy reminiscent of an actual Oscar would be a good choice.

  6. Step 6

Pack an Oscar goodie bag for each guest. Include sunglasses and a boa for the ladies and a white scarf and cigar for the men.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a separate space where guests who are not as interested in watching the televised Oscar show as everyone else can go to chat and not interfere with the show.
  • Don't let anyone leave if they have had too much to drink. If you are serving champagne at the Oscar party, you may need to have the guest room or sofas ready for those guests who should not be on the road.
