Instructions

    • 1

Wash lemons thoroughly in hot water. Use paper towels to dry lemons. Zest them, making sure no white part of rind is attached to the peel.

    • 2

Pour vodka into a gallon jar. Add lemon zest, cover the jar and store in a cool place for at least 10 days. The longer you let it sit, the more flavorful the Limoncello will be. You can leave it for up to 40 days.

    • 3

Combine water and sugar in a pan and cook it for five to seven minutes. It will thicken slightly. Let the mixture cool and then add to the lemon and vodka mixture in the gallon jar. Keep in the same cool, dry place for another 40 days.

    • 4

Strain mixture and discard lemon zest. Pour it into bottles and place it in the freezer until you want to serve the limoncello.

    • 5

Pour over ice for a straight-up drink or mix it with tonic water for a refreshing adult lemonade type beverage. Mix two parts limoncello to one part heavy cream and shake well for an after dinner treat. Use limoncello the way you would any liquor.

Tips & Warnings

  • 100 proof vodka won't freeze when you store the Limoncello in the freezer. It also has a lighter flavor than other proofs and will let the lemon flavor come through for a better tasting Limoncello.

  • Do not use the pith (white part) of the lemon peel. It is very bitter and will make the Limoncello taste horrible.
