How to Make Flame Appear From a Hand

Tricks involving fire always get attention, even the most minor ones. You can impress your friends—or at least get their attention—with a simple fire trick using only a lighter. With a little practice, and no fear of getting burned, you can master this trick in no time.

Things You’ll Need:

• Lighter

1. Close your hand into a loose fist, leaving an opening at either the top or the bottom of your fist. For a larger flame, have an opening at the bottom of your fist; for a smaller flame, have the opening at the top.
2. Position a lighter near your fist, close to your fist's open side.
3. Depress the lighter button gently, without clicking the flint, so the gas from the lighter fluid fills your first. Hold the lighter there for 3 to 5 seconds.
4. Ignite the lighter. As the gas flames, open your hand to reveal a small flame.

• If you're afraid of getting burned, purchase a magic trick instead. A trick like Hell's Flame gives an impressive effect with little danger.
• This is a dangerous trick and can result in burns.
• Do not hold the lighter button down too long or you'll release too much gas causing a larger flame that's likely to burn you or observers.
• Only do this trick in an area where nothing can catch fire. Have water and a fire extinguisher nearby to put out flames if necessary.
