Getting a real person on the line to help you with a technical problem can be a challenging task, but there are a few ways to get around pushing buttons and becoming frustrated. Here are a few tips on how to get a human on the line.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Be prepared with model numbers, error codes and the steps that led to the problem. Once you get through to a human being, this can make the process a bit less frustrating.
Step2
Press "0" on the telephone's keypad once you begin getting the messages. This usually interrupts the system and puts you through to a live person. Some systems require that you say the word "operator" or "tech support" to get around the system.
Step3
Check to see if the company's tech support can be reached via the Internet. Many tech support services have chat capabilities that allow you to communicate directly with a support person "live" and online.
Step4
Ask for the support person's name and extension in case the problem persists. Some support telephone systems allow you to dial an extension, which will interrupt the voice mail process.
Step5
Try getting through to an accounts or billing representative. They tend to answer the phone right away. Explain your problem and, in most instances, they'll put you directly through to a tech support person.
