How to Study for a Merchandising Exam

Make yourself valuable to your employer by becoming an effective merchandising professional. Your boss is spending most of his waking hours figuring out how to improve sales. Be the solution and make it hard for him to lay you off. This starts with a good merchandise exam study program that begins before the course starts.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain work in a retail or supermarket before taking the course if you're not already a merchandising professional. Hands-on merchandising knowledge facilitates book and classroom learning. Learn as much as you can about merchandising at this job.

    • 2

Receive your merchandising textbook before the course begins. Read from chapter 1 to the last chapter. Download the information on the disk if one comes with your text book. Do the exercises on the disk and in your book in preparation for your upcoming class. Prepare for each future class this way.

    • 3

Take notes during the lessons, in every lesson. Study these notes every day until the merchandising exam. Couple this with highlighting sections in the chapters you read that satisfy the learning objectives. Read the chapters twice--once to read the chapter, a second time to highlight. Do this before your professor covers them in class.

    • 4

Apply what you learn to your merchandising related job. Share your merchandising experiences during class lectures.

    • 5

Form a merchandising study group with your classmates. Find ways to make this fun. Create a "merchandising Jeopardy" game for example. Be the game sponsor. Do this within a week of the exam.

    • 6

Go back over the chapter learning objectives a week before your merchandising exam. Study the text covered by those objectives you're not comfortable with.

    • 7

Get plenty of rest the night before, and eat a light breakfast the morning of the exam. Eat a light lunch if your merchandising exam takes place in the afternoon. Eat a light dinner if the exam is in the evening. You don't want to doze off during the exam. Look through every question on the test before jotting your first answer.
